‘Mananat-trayate iti Mantrah’ – The root ‘Man’ in the word Mantra comes from the first syllable of that word, meaning ‘to think’, and ‘Tra’ from ‘Trai’ meaning ‘to protect’ or ‘free’ from the bondage of Samsara or the phenomenal world. By the combination of ‘Man’ and ‘Tra’ comes Mantra.
Mantra – Is a Vehicle for Self Discovery. It is not the name of a god or goddess or of a person. It is not a holy word or part of a hymn. Mantra is not sacred, nor is it a tool for concentration. It is a vehicle for expansion of mind and liberation of energy.
